So one of my charges were has a blog ; and a pretty popular one from all accounts. I’m not sure that is what I want from my new team.
I mean, he’s older than me and he’s only been around for an hour. Whereas I had to serve an apprenticeship of around 10 years as Fleming’s best player before I had the chance to influence the cricket world with my bespectacled genius.
This is how I want things to be done. I am my own man and I am going to prove it.
15 Dec 2008 The new selectors gave me a dud in Gillespie ahead of my mate Tom,
Not happy.
I showed them. Tee hee. I am a leader; don’t forget it.
Not too sure about this TV referral thing either, although I did pick up a wicket because of it.
Bowled well in the first innings; got yet another 5-for.
20 Dec 2008 Iain O’Brien gets 6 wickets. It’ll really go to his head now.
23 Dec 2008 The referral thing is crap.
Brendan was going fine; we were going fine, and then he was given out.
He wasn’t out.
So I made a point and stopped the run chase. OK; we might have won our first series for a while (3 years) against decent opposition, but I had a point to make; and I think that’s really important. .
Also, it was a good way of distracting my mates in the media from the fact that I’d failed to screw the opposition in the 2nd innings in a test. Just quietly, I don’t think they have picked up on that one yet.
Jeets bowled well to get his first 5 for; although he was lucky in getting to bowl to so many left-handers.
In years to come, people will not remember the match or my impotence on days 4 and 5, they will remember a strong leader.
"See; they’re not there yet, are they?"
26 Dec 2008 If there is one thing worse than the referral rule it’s the Stanford Super Over.
Where is the justice in a leader bowling 4 overs for 16 and then bowling 1 over for 25 and his side losing the match?
I had controlled our bowling effort brilliantly; only for it all to be ruined by a farcical decision to play an extra over to get a clear winner. What was wrong with a tie anyway?
Just a cheap gimmick to provide a winner and ruin a great and tight contest.
It is another rule that I am going to complain about to the ICC.
Missed out on the MoM bonus too.
28 Dec 2008 Good to be home. Good to have a win. I bowled well again too. Outbowled Jeets again.
The record books show a drawn series, but under my rules we won it 1-0 with one match tied so that’s good.
31 Dec 2008 A disappointing washout; although I was starting to dominate the West Indians with my bowling.
Silly talk from the media about how there should have been a reserve day tomorrow. But that overlooks the fact it’s called One Day cricket. Playing 2 days in a row sounds too much like test cricket to me. And they’d still expect us to back up on Saturday.
3 Jan 2009 If only we were allowed a Reserve Day. The rain meant that we ended up with a match that was basically a T20 affair; and we don’t like such a sudden change.
Bowled well again, and got us into a position where we should have won. But Jeets and Young Tim mucked it up at The Death and we just lost. See; they’re not there yet, are they?
7 Jan 2009 Back to a true 50 over game and we showed them who was boss.
I really had them in knots in the middle overs which was a bit strange given I couldn’t get it to turn at all. Another Man of the Match award.
The only downside was that I couldn’t quite grab that 5 wicket bag that I looked on track for at one stage. Even thought I might have been in line for 6 wickets so that is why I bowled in the last Power Play. Won’t be doing that in a hurry again.
