The Worst Graphic Ever
3As published in this week’s Sunday Star Times. Where to start on this extraordinarily error ridden piece.
So let’s start with the heading. One Day International wicket takers. Yet the five bowlers listed are the leading test wicket takers.
Muralitharan:
800 wickets in 132 ODIs. Wow that’s impressive. But there’s more; apparently he’s Indian. Making this even more bizarre is the accompanying photo clearly shows him with SRI LANKA written on his shirt.
Warne:
Once again, the number of test wickets were captured while playing a number of ODIs.
Kumble:
Well at least the test wickets per ODI played narrative is consistent. They’re also consistent in the idea that Murali played for India, with the two of them making India such a formidable force. Actually, he was very much India’s premier spin bowler throughout the vast majority of his career.
McGrath
…”rounds out a top four of two Australians and two Indians”. Except for the fact that Murali is Sri Lankan.
Walsh
“As the only non-Australian or Indian in the top five”. Well if you are going to get nationalities mixed up you maight as well keep on repeating it.
For the record, the Top One Day International wicket takers are:
Muralitharan
Wasim
Waqar
Vaas
Pollock
That is one out of five of those listed. Which is a higher mark than the graphic itself gets.
You’ve spun two admittedly terrible mistakes (ODI vs tests, and Murali’s nationality) into 6 paragraphs of complaint here, which is in itself a fairly impressive feat.
How many more words would you have hammered out if the list didn’t include #5?
You could at least make it a Top 5 at the end, Sean Pollock may be ginger but he’s a person too.
Fixed…..
