v Bangladesh. MVP points

The Bangladesh game, more than most, provided the chance for everyone to play their part.  For the first time in the competition the opposing team batted out their 50 overs, and nine players got a bat.  The MVP points go to a couple of familiar names, and a couple of non-regulars.

1. Ross Taylor; beleaguered Ross Taylor.  This was not a great innings by any stretch of the imagination, but it was fit for the occasion.  He came in at 33/2; with 256 still needed.  He had Guptill, and then Elliott at the other end who were both scoring at Strike rates above 100.  The blow on the arm might have had an effect as well.
2. Daniel Vettori.  It almost goes without saying that he would be New Zealand’s most economical bowler, and he bowled at some challenging time.  The icing on the cake was his batting; where his experience in these situations showed.  The was his first ODI 6 for five years too.  He goes third on the list.
3. Corey Anderson.  Just what you would want from an all-rounder.  Like Vettori, he bowled at the pressure times and pulled out the full bag of tricks.  And with the bat he provided the acceleration at the right time.  He is breathing down Williamson neck in the race for MVP.
4. Martin Guptill.  He reaped the rewards of the uncomfortable knock against Afghanistan.  This was the best we have seen Guptill back since the 2013 tour of India.  The feet moved, he wasn’t trying ot overhit it, and his placement was superb.
