Drama MVP points

After the theatre of yesterday it almost seems wrong to allocate MVP points, but it was started (against South Africa as it happens) so it will finish.  Everyone’s favourite Matt Henry is back in the game too; he just missed out on the points today.

1. Trent Boult.  Once again, like every other game in this tournament, he was close to unplayable early.  Pace, swing, Wasim sexiness; he did it all.   He was even better than he was in Wellington, where he could have had five; it’s a fickle game.
2. Corey Anderson.  He is scratchy when he comes in, but that part of the 103 run partnership was pivotal to the win.  He takes wickets, but he does leak a bit.  DL helped out there.  And he goes equal top with Williamson.
3. Brendon McCullum.  298 off 43 is not simple. This was McCullum at his over-the-top best.  His innings got the demons going and meant that Guptill, Taylor and Elliott could get themselves going.  He didn’t pick on the rabble either; 25 off a Steyn over is a notch in the bedpost..
4. Grant Elliott.  Remember when Elliott got booed in Christchurch in early January?  That was a superbly paced innings, and showed that a 2015 version of Roger Twose is a handy thing.  New Zealand has its Michael Bevan.
