Sportsfreaks NFL Match of the Week with @Girvana
0Kansas City Chiefs vs Detroit Lions 2.30am Monday NZ Time
London Town
This week, for the third time this season, a NFL game will be played in London – only a week after the last one. Rodger Goodell seems hell bent on growing the game internationally by sending over the worst teams to show their wares. This week the 1-6 Detroit Lions take on the 2-5 Kansas City Chiefs – both teams hardly playing at an elite level.
The Lions really have no excuses – last season they deservedly made the playoffs however were controversially beaten by the Dallas Cowboys. They have a number of stars with Quarterback Matt Stafford and Calvin “Megatron” Johnson at wide receiver. This year they have been plain awful with Stafford being pulled during a game as his play was so poor.
The Chiefs went into the season with great aplomb after going unbeaten preseason – a first up win against an awful Houston Texan’s and a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers 3rd string quarterback last week have been their only highlights. Star Running Back Jamaal Charles is out for the season and quarterback Alex Smith continues to be indecisive at taking that shot downfield. He did look better last week with the Chiefs down to second stringers in offense so he had to take some unfamiliar risks.
The Chiefs on paper should win this however travel, time difference and the UK weather could all make it a 50/50 call. The Chiefs have been given a 4.5 point start in this one – there may only be a field goal difference in the end.
