The Lost Weekend
2After the month of August when we had 14 or so channels of Olympic Games coverage, a couple of All Blacks tests, the New Zealand cricket team touring Africa, the Warriors in a long list of must win mathematical matches, and even the Premier League starting…
This weekend we have, well, none of that.
The Rugby Championship gets a weekend off. Sure, there is the ITM Mitre 10 Cup, but there aren’t many games that grab the eye (sorry Turbos fans)
The New Zealand cricket team will arrive back in the country, to lick their wounds and get X-Rays on their fingers, but that’s not really great TV viewing.
The Warriors play a dead game.
Sure, there’s the US Tennis Open, but it’s the middle weekend so it’s hard to get too excited about that.
After the craziness of Transfer Deadline day the European football leagues take a break because there are… mostly international friendlies to be played.
Probably the main event is the National First XV final between the feel-good story of Hastings Boys High School up against Radio Sport’s darlings Mt Albert Grammar.
2:45 on Sunday afternoon. In Palmerston North. This is the highlight of your sporting weekend. How very Kiwi.
There’s an Australia/New Zealand netball game on Sunday which should be good 🙂
In a strange tournament nobody seems to be taking the seriously.
BTW, Australia will win. Easily
