But similar to Arsene Wenger invisible, the oppositions are becoming pretty familiar with the trick. Guardiola may still sneak another league crown to the Etihad but that may never happen next season. By then, teams must have totally mastered his system. Meanwhile, there would be increased pressure to return with something from European.
2 – Arsenal
Unai Emery arrived at Arsenal without much fanfare. Quite frankly, any manager not named Wenger would be welcomed in that part of North London. The Spaniard wasn’t expected to drastically turn things around. Even the most optimistic Gooner was modest with expectations.
The less pressure, however, is counting in his favour. Arsenal is on the rise again, unbeaten in nine matches. Emery’s high-intensity style has got the Gunners firing again. With such remarkable silent turnaround, Arsenal could just be the team to beat next year.
1 – Chelsea
It is true that Sarri doesn’t recognise silverware. He could inadvertently relinquish a championship medal for a runner-up spot. Twice his Napoli side bottled in at most crucial moments to crown Juventus.
At Chelsea, the theme hasn’t really changed. The Blues are joint-top, meaning they would still finish in the second position if the league ends after eight matches. However, unlike his time in Naples, Sarri has the resources to challenge any team. If Eden Hazard stays, it would be very tough holding the Sarri Ball next year.
