The Swinehound Sports Quiz #8
6By The Spotter
Welcome to the eighth edition of the ‘Swinehound’ sports quiz. There hasn’t been one for a good while, so there’s an increase from the regular 8 question set to a full XV this time. The joint defenders are: Andy Muir of Southland and Gerard, playing abroad from London (yes, we have gone international, lol).
As yet, no single participant from the seven previous editions has managed to defend their ‘hound crown. Three title defences will win you a very good conditioned copy of the old rugger journalist David Frost’s book, ‘Lions 83’.
Play fair with your answers. It’s called the Swinehound for a reason- a lot of the questions are bloody swines to get right. However Google is absolutely a banned substance- it’s the stanozolol of quizzing; just don’t go there.
Post answers in the Comments section below the quiz. Or it’s possible to tweet to sportsfreak Twitter on this site.
So best of luck, and fire up the old memory bank- coz’ some of the Qs are a bit bygone.

Cheers Martin and Scott. Strong form so far!… Will post answers tomorrow…thks for playing lads 🙂
To my chagrin I’ve just realised a slight prob about Q1… concerning a team with a compound name! Won’t say now but guess I’ll have to accept two different answer options for that one (surprised no-one’s picked up on it yet!)
Scott’s answers pretty good.
9 I think was Kieran Crowley
Yep; Q9 sure was Kieran Crowley.
In fact Scotty Mac put in a superb knock: 13/16 with the bonus point. The only other two he missed were:
Q3; Richie McCaw (pretty amazing stat, really)
Q5: Brendon Bracewell (the passport story- clearly remember reading that one some years ago- think it was in John Wright’s excellent biography, ‘Christmas in Rarotonga’)
Martin H a good effort too, with 8 in a difficult one. Well done to Scott (@madmaclegend). I’m a bit worried now because a few more strong performances with that kind of ability and my Lion’s ’83 book could be heading due south to his Wgton bookshelf. He needs three successful defences from now though..
*Also, Q 1: Would also have accepted ‘Crewe Alexandra’. Whoops..
Actually in my haste I left out the oldest ever player in a rugby international. Was just a young buck- 57 years old for Qatar vs UAE in Asian Nations in 2012. Should have given multi-choice for that one! Re:
Second row Mark Spencer holds the record of being the oldest Test rugby player when turning out in the boilerhouse for Qatar in the 2012 HSBC Asian Five Nations tournament against Uzbekistan aged 57 years and 340 days old… incredibly it was his debut for the Middle Eastern state.
So Scott scored 12, not 13. But still damn good!
