Sporting Pics of the week :- 21 February

The Sochi bear has been a very busy bear all week; ending up in all sorts of strange places.  But here he is after the hosts’ Quarter-final defeat to Finland in the Ice Hockey.  He turns into Misery Bear.

Sochi has been a strange place to host the Winter Olympics.  Being quite hot for example.

The sporting story of the week, of course, was Brendon McCullum’s extraordinary marathon at the Basin Reserve.  Here he is stiffly making his way back to the shed post interviews at the end of Day 4; pretty much a walking zombie.  So exhausted in fact he forgot to check whether he had matching shoes on.

Not quite an Americas Cup style ticker tape parade, but the team deserved the confetti.

It wasn’t the best week for MS Dhoni though.

Across town the Phoenix were having a tougher time of things; having it handed to them by bottom of the table Melbourne Heart.  But when you turn up dressed like this you kind of deserve it.

Remember Arjen Robben?  Here he is managing to get Wojciech Szczesny sent off in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, it was not the best week for his former manager, who turned into The Puffing One during his side’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester City.

Back to cricket.  Port Elizabeth.  If you returned to your car after the end of the first day you’d be slightly annoyed?
