Never about the cricket
0There is a saying that the NRL stands for Never Really about the League. That competition is a walking headline 12 months a year.
You could argue the same could be said about the Ashes in that there has been very little cricket analysis this week. Instead, it’s all been about interpretation of the rules and that curious Spirit of cricket thing. This has been going on for 90 years.
It’s also been done against an avalanche of whataboutism. If you want decent analysis of the issues at stake stay well clear of anything coming out of England or Australia.
And, especially, stay away from Prime Ministerial reckons.
The West Australian seems like a perfectly normal masthead. Remember 2018 champs?

In the digital space there is some pretty cheap editing.
The definition of a hypocrite is Brendon McCullum.

Then there was the parody Tory MP account who ticked off every box imaginable.

And bless India Cricket Twitter for chipping in.
The real 'Spirit of Cricket' would have been to declare NZ and ENG as joint-winners of the World Cup 2019 as technically even the Super Over ended in a tie.
If the rules mattered then to decide a winner, the rules matter now as well. End of debate. pic.twitter.com/f6NjzGMtcu

We’ve got three more tests of this race to the bottom. Buckle in. To be fair, we’re all watching.
