Sporting Pics of the Week: August 9
0Following the draw for the 2015 ICC World Cup people are getting nostalgic about the 1992 edition. And here’s a pretty random location for a captains’ promotional shoot. NZ had a navy back then? What’s Gooch up to? Surely Border’s not standing on the rope just to gain an extra inch or two, and at no one does “Get me out of here” better than Imran.
More cricket. Remember Jeff Thomson? He now leads one of those package fan tours to England for the Ashes. Looks like it’s not a bad trip either.
But even a group led by Thommo wouldn’t have had much fun on the last day. Oh Manchester….
But look at Warner; he’s up for it. Has there ever been a cricketer better suited to a later life as a Simpsons character?
Cricket > rugby crossover picture. This is Carisbrook this week. No news on whether they’ve found Bert Sutcliffe’s ashes yet…
Tawa; a suburb-town just north of Wellington previously famous only for Lynne and being a dry area through to the start of the 21st century. Well now they’ve got themselves a rugby team; winning the Jubilee Cup over the weekend. Grass roots rugby at its best.
Ah; Jimmy Cowan. The pugnacious halfback best remembered for looking like a Justin Marshall doppelganger; complete with those carefully tussled blonde highlights. These days he’s based in England, and who on earth is he trying to look like now?
