Cricket Marathon Masochistic World Record attempt
0Loughborough University Staff CC) are attempting the Cricket Marathon World Record, which currently stand at 105hrs of continuous cricket. The attempt is from 24th to 30th June on the Loughborough College Rubbercrumb which is here.
The hope to push it out to 150 hours. With the tradition of being one of the best sporting universities in Europe & producing numerous Olympic athletes and International sports men & women it’ll be an attempt successfully achieved.
150 hours is a mighty long time. Mad dogs and Englishmen in the midnight dark.
The attempt is taking place at a time when the international media will be focussing on teams preparing for the Olympics just across the road on the Loughborough University campus, with unavoidable exposure for the attempt happening through several different countries media, most notably our own Great Britain & NI and, the home of extreme endurance events, Japan
The attempt is in the name of charity; namely the Harley Staples Cancer Trust (www.harleystaples.co.uk). This Trust was established in memory of Harley who died on the 1st November 2009 having suffered with a rare form of leukaemia
There are two fund raising dinners, on Saturday 23rd June & Saturday 7th July and Matthew Hoggard (charity’s Patron) has just confirmed he is coming to at least the second one. The organisers are close to confirming Paul Nixon for both dinners as well; so that should by nice and loud.
There are talks underway with Graham Lambert of the Inspiral Carpets who is very interested in playing for the whole marathon attempt; he is also trying to entice fellow Inspiral Carpets member Stephen Holt to play for the week to. Comedian and Cricinfo contributor Andy Zaltzman has also shown a willingness to play, as does TV presenter Natalie Pinkham who has expressed a desire to field in the slips as she’s not got a good throwing arm.
Several models are attending both the dinners and are standing as celebrity umpires during this; Lee-Ann Roberts, Lucy Collett, Nina Evans, Rachel McDonald & Jemma Reseigh. (Off to Google people go)
You may have heard the attempt mentioned on Test Match Special last week during the second Pakistan v England ODI? With Geoff Boycott stating he would get involved umpiring to support us. This may or may not be related to the models mentioned above.
