Double Double Statchat
0This was the first time two New Zealanders had scored double centuries in the same test innings, and the 18th time overall.
When he reached 91 Kane Williamson became the first New Zealander to score 8,000 test runs.
It was the second time he scored centuries in three consecutive tests. Previous occurrence was 251 against West Indies followed by 129 and 238 v Pakistan (2020/21)
It was his fifth test century at the Basin Reserve.
He now has 28 test centuries. That is equal with a guy called Kohli, although it has taken him 14 fewer tests.
He also has a superior ratio of centuries per test than Kallis, Tendulkar and Ponting.
He now has six double hundreds which puts him alongside Atapattu, Sehwag, Miandad, Younis Khan, Ponting and Tendulkar.
That was Henry Nicholls’s ninth test century. This puts him level with Stephen Fleming in that category.
He became the 17th New Zealand batter to score a test double century.
The partnership of 363 between Williamson and Nicholls is the fifth highest for New Zealand for any wicket. Third on that list (369) is between the same two batters.
Four of those top six partnerships have been at the Basin.
Now for something different; off the first two balls of the first over after the first drinks break Kane Williamson increased his number of test sixes by over 10%.
