Joining the Dots re hidden stories etc
4We are a week out for a General Election and the Sunday Star Times chose to lead its paper today with a story about how they were not allowed to publish a story relating to cricketers.
Who knows what that story they did not run was to involve, but it is not too difficult to draw a few conclusions.
- It is fair to assume that this information has nothing to do with match-fixing itself, and certainly nothing to do with the matches in question.
- It is fair to assume that the material has nothing to do with any correspondence between McCullum and Cairns, given the 2012 timeframe alleged.
- It is fair to assume that Brendon McCullum and Kerry Schwalger are not as close as they once were.
The Sunday Star Time article says that “McCullum’s credibility is key to the prosecution”. But you have to wonder what actual value this would achieve in term of discrediting McCullum’s potential evidence in this perjury trial. Remember that trial will be very much focussed on testimony provided by Cairns in the original Modi case. It is really hard to see the relevance.
Alternatively, it could be a metaphorical shot across the bows at not only McCullum, but anyone else likely to testify. That is called Witness Intimidation, and that is some pretty serious stuff
The whole thing really is very curious.
why are those all fair assumptions? i’m no cairns apologist but i can’t see how you’ve drawn these conclusions
1. The article says that it related to information from 2012. The Modi libel trial refers to matches played in 2008.
2. Well documented that McCullum & Cairns were not in contact then.
3. Reading between the lines. McCullum says “I believe that the trust I have placed in one of these relationships has been betraye”
Is Kerry Schwalger a man or a woman? I’ve not been able to find any pictures of him/her anywhere on the web. If this point could be cleared up then some of the questions around McCullum’s relationship with Schwalger would be quickly put to bed (excuse the pun…)
McCullum obviously told Schwalger something in confidence and Schwalger then spilled the beans to Cairns or people associated with Cairns.
Kerry Schwalger is a man.
And I’d say you’re spot on with the last paragraph
