Plucky Central Districts
3Congratulations to the Central Districts Stags for winning the Ford Trophy for 2014/5. They did not just win the final; they demolished Auckland by 78 runs.
What makes this even more remarkable is that they came last in the domestic T20 competition, did it with almost exclusively home-grown players, their best batsmen both failed, and they have that left-arm spinner with the strangest action since Paul Adams was around. What makes it even pluckier is that they managed to do it despite being the most unwieldy cricket association possible.
The traditional home ground for the association is Napier, but that is rapidly being overtaken by Nelson who has the best facilities. And their naming sponsor is a hotel in New Plymouth. Try getting to and from those three cities in a hurry. Their biggest city, Palmerston North, is only really there to provide players.
Being a Central Districts selector is the toughest job in New Zealand cricket.
They also have interesting promotional videos.
Hopefully Palmerston North will one day have decent facilities. It’s central to the 3 grounds mentioned and would make travel a tad easier. Maybe in the distant future we’ll host an international. Given the population within a couple of hours drive, it should draw a decent crowd.
Congrats C.D. ….being from Wgtn it’s always good when the Jafa’s get well & truly done over, hahaha
To add to that, considering that about half the Auks are of South African origin, perhaps they ought to be known as Jasas (Just Another f***ing South African) and not Jafas..
