Remember when Michael Campbell won the US Open?

The US Golf Open takes place this week.  That is the Major that Michael Campbell won in 2005, so that’s why he’s back, as part of the exemption rule.  Think of it as the Michaela Campbell Traditional.

Now it’s pretty fashionable to knock Campbo.  The dramatic form loss, that unfortunate comment about being invaded by aliens, and perhaps a hint of the Tall Poppy Syndrome in there.

But the thing is, this is arguably the single biggest achievement by a New Zealander in sport over the last decade.
