Some Random Footballing Thoughts
5This afternoon’s All Whites win over Honduras was their first since before the 2010 World Cup. That in itself is plenty of reason to celebrate, but there were a few random thoughts raised throughout the game. I can’t help thinking that………
If Shane Smeltz deserved a yellow card for a relatively innocuous challenge, shouldn’t the dude who managed to knee Ian Hogg in the ribs be facing the death penalty?
And speaking of Hogg, was he really the go-to-guy when it came to throwing the ball in after that challenge?
When they said they were playing in the Cotton Bowl, I didn’t realise they would be playing in an actual paddock.
I know the retro thing is fashionable, but in this digital age, why were we forced to watch coverage that looked more like a replay from the 1978 World Cup?
And couldn’t Sky Sport pick a less retina-destroying colour than electric blue to fill in the widescreen gaps?
Are the All Whites the masters of turning an attacking corner into a pass back to their own keeper in two touches?
Why are players consistently allowed to poach 10 metres or more when taking a throw in?
If Carlo Costly is being allegedly considered as an answer for the Phoenix, what on earth was the question?
Has someone told Cameron Howieson’s mum he won’t be home until late?
With a win and a draw in the last three days, is Ricki Herbert considering a long term name change to Edvin Juresic?
By the way, we thought you might like the photo of what Andrew Dewhurst looks like when he actually commentates from the venue (it doesn’t happen often). Lets hope the phrase “injure issuies” goes into NZ broadcasting folklore
Or you might not.
