The 2014 World XI
1This afternoon on Radio Sport during Daniel McHardy’s 3-7 show we will pick the cricket World Test XI for 2014. It is your chance to have your say; phone in or text to 5009 etc etc.
This virtual team will be playing a triangular series with the World XIs from 2004 and 1994.
However, there are some time-honoured rules that need to be followed.
- The players must have performed the duty they are picked for during the year. For example, you cannot name Sangakarra or McCullum as keepers. And you can’t manufacture an opener if they have not opened in a test in 2014.
- There must be at least five bowling options in the side. Remember the opposition; four bowlers alone will not do.
- The credentials for selection should be based 50% on 2014 records, and 50% on previous pedigree. For example, Michael Clarke on 2014 form alone wouldn’t come close to this side. But when you take his previous record into account he is a contender.
- These virtual tests will be played at a venue to be randomly chosen after the team is announced. It could be the Gabba or Headingly; it could be Dhaka or Sharjah.
Give it some thought, and we will talk to you later.
