The Race to the SKY Bottom
0This June rugby series against Wales has been pretty good. In both tests Wales has been marginally dominant in the first half, than the All Blacks have turned on the heat running in tries from depth. It is good television.
But. There is something that needs to be addressed, and it is the 2016 innovation of Justin Marshall doing what can only be described as a poor man’s Gus Gould.
Last weekend Justin Marshall walked into the All Blacks dressing room in the build-up (Seriously this coverage goes internationally) talking about hallowed places and jersey numbers. This week he walked across Westpac Stadium in some soft furry pants, kicking a ball (badly) talking about the Pride of a team.
Has anyone at SKY done the research? It is clear that the thing that winds people up about State of Origin coverage is the Gould pre-match sermon; the over hyping of things, the war analogies, and the general over important crap.
But no; let’s have a race to the bottom. They scrape a barrel there, we can scrape a barrel here. What a laugh, and who cares about the punters; we’re all good.
They will probably have sideline punters sitting on the All Blacks reserve bench next.
