The so-called clash
0Stuff yesterday. 3 stories about the clash, with just one about the actual rugby. Just an example across all media this week.
Woah, there has been so much talk about a televised clash of rugby union that has taken on a life of its own.
At 7pm New Zealand time the All Blacks take on Japan in a little anticipated money maker test match while 30 minutes later the Black Ferns have a repeat of a match against Wales from a game a fortnight ago
Logistically this was a tough one. Later that day in Japan there is a final taking place in their baseball (national sport) taking place so from a local point of view it would have been crazy to put a rugby test up against that.
Could they have moved the rugby test earlier? 3pm is a standard time for a kick off in Japan. Despite what some may think, NZR can’t just rock up to a foreign market and demand a lunchtime kickoff.
Let’s face it; neither match is really appointment viewing but it’s become a real distraction piece away from the actual games.
Some are suggesting it’s actually good publicity for the Black Ferns match but instead it’s provided a way of obscuring the actual event.
Can we please have more Black Ferns actual reporting?
Trivia Time:
All Blacks
- How many tests have the All Blacks played in Japan?
- When was the last time?
- What time of day was it?
- What was the score?
Black Ferns
- Who did the Black Ferns play in the last World Cup quarters?
- The score?
- Time of day
The only memorable thing about any of that is that Brett Cameron played in one of them.
The Black Ferns, playing in a World Cup at home deserve more coverage, but can we please focus on the actual event rather than some pointless gender gross off affair that is totally unnecessary.
