The Sporting Week’s MTV Chart Toppers
0By The Spotter
It’s been a very eventful sporting week. Here is a top ten hit parade of all the goings on/highlights:
@ 1: ‘Blinded by the Light’ (for ‘light’, read ‘buckets of moola’)- Manfred Mann’s Earth Band
Manchester City fans are drunkenly oblivious to some alleged, shady, financial improprieties at their club.
@2: ‘Words’- Sharon O’Neill
Nothing but the spin for the bedraggled Aussie men’s cricket team.
@3: ‘Throwing it all away’- Phil Collins
But in reality a duet between Ross Taylor and Mohammed Hafeez.
@4: ‘Shaddup your face’- Joe Dolce
Jose Mourinho gives it and a bit more to the Juve fans in Turin. A lovely, feel-good little ditty.
@5: ‘You keep me hangin’ on’- Kim Wilde
Tottenham Hotspur drive their fans to the point of nervous exhaustion and with it, a small thread of hope.
@6: ‘Greased Lightning’- John Travolta
Who else, but Trent ‘Lightning’ Boult with his top-order hat-trick vs Pakistan.
@7: ‘Should I stay or should I go?’- The Clash
This could about right for Eddie Jones if the English rose gets trampled over by the All Blacks to the tune of fifteen points or more.
@8: ‘Faith’- George Michael
The inconsistent Kiwi Rugby League team and the Wellington Phoenix will need doses of this from their followers.
@9: ‘Lucky’- Radiohead
Owen Farrell was definitely this against the Springboks.
@10: ‘Dreadlock Holiday’- 10cc
An iconic song with which to describe the beginning of the Women’s World T20 cricket World Cup, in the West Indies.
Cheers for reading. I take no responsibility for song choice quality, nor rank. And just thank god I didn’t accidentally put in ‘I Should be so Lucky’ for number 9.
