Thoughts from Napier
0India are a one man team? They were last night, but that will change. This series is now set up perfectly. The World Champs will only get better, but this is an improving NZ side with depth.
Get your act together New Zealanders. From the TV coverage at least this match came across as being played in the Art Deco capital of India. This tour now plays out in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington and apparently it may not happen again in a hurry. So make sure you get along and impose some unfamiliar concept of home advantage. It was noticeably absent yesterday.
So then; that is why Adam Milne is not ready for test cricket. And quite why Chris Cairns, whose early introduction to that form of the game had long term implications, should think that was a good idea will remain a mystery.
The unsung hero from last night was Tim Southee. Perhaps motivated by the fact the all the talk was around others got him going, but he showed the benefit of pace with experience. Caught pretty well too.
Fielding is important. It was easy to lose count of the number of runs India conceded bonus runs in the field for no reason. Feet are not hands, diving is meant to be done to stop the ball, ad New Zealand continued to benefit. That was a significant factor in the outcome.
Ego vortex. Brendon McCullum was set, and was launching the run assault well. Then he knicked one well to the side of MS Dohni, who snaffled it with ease. The energy from that moment could have been harnessed and powered a small submarine.Check out Corey J Anderson’s career ODI batting stats. Especially the career strike rate. That will be why people insist on putting a price tag against the guy.
Apparently his third six travelled for 122 metres; in case you missed that bit.
Why does the WASP annoy people so much? It did seem a bit skewed in the run chase last night, but ultimately got it right.
Ish Sharma. If you’re going to be a fashion statement you need to move with the times. The medallion may have grown, but it’s just the same as it was five years ago; as is the mullet. Where’s the chic in that? You’.ll go well in Hamilton though
Those people wearing orange shirts without a lanyard. Wait until one of the takes a catch in the crowd,
Martin Guptill did not play the worst opener’s innings yesterday. But Peter Fulton must be looking on curiously
